Solid AFO

Solid AFO

A solid Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO) is a type of custom fabricated, molded plastic, AFO capable of some degree of triplanar control of the foot/ankle complex. Although it could be argued that many AFO designs are in fact solid ankle (e.g. CROW, FRAFO , Wraparound AFO) it is generally understood that solid AFO only refers to a particular design of AFO which is not otherwise specified by another name. The opposite of a solid AFO is an articulated AFO.

Function[]

A very standard design that supports the lower limb in cases of ankle or knee weakness or spasticity. Reduction or elimination of talocrural motion can be obtained as well as a reduction in subtatar motion. [1] Can be modified to reduce tone or maintain neutral alignment and can further minimize varus/valgus with the addition of a dynamic force strap or medial/lateral tabs. [2]
